Elvis 2022 Film Review:

This is 100% Baz Luhrmann and 100% Elvis. As an Italian 1997 born, I don’t really know Elvis, except for 4/5 songs. And this movie made me feel who was Elvis and what Elvis meant for U. S audience in that period. This movie is electrifying (especially in the first half) with a fantastic work of directing and editing. The acting is top-notch and even if probably a tad too long, it really nails you that “Elvis-mania”. Conventional story but told in the most perfect way for this amazing artist. If you like Baz Luhrmann style (the Great Gatsby, Moulin Rouge…) or if you are a fan of Elvis, this is a MUST WATCH! But I generally recommend this to everyone cause it’s probably one of the most satisfying musical biopic of all time. I would give it 8/10 just because the last part feel a bit “dragged on”

Elvis (2022) Movie : Full StoryLine –

From his childhood in Tupelo, Mississippi to his rise to stardom starting in Memphis, Tennessee and his conquering of Las Vegas, Nevada, Elvis Presley becomes the first rock ‘n roll star and changes the world with his music.

The film opens in 1997 as Elvis Presley’s former manager Colonel Tom Parker is on his deathbed looking back on how he first met the future King of Rock and Roll. The film spans over fifty years, beginning with Elvis Presley’s poverty-ridden childhood with his parents Vernon and Gladys. He finds music to be a salvation, even though he is ridiculed by his peers because of his fascination with the African American music of Memphis’s Beale Street. Parker is a carnival “huckster” who fancies himself a modern-day PT Barnum, playing upon the gullible nature of his audience. Although Parker is already managing country singer Hank Snow, as soon as he hears Presley on the radio he is immediately obsessed with becoming his manager. He eventually meets and persuades Elvis to let him take control of his career, which begins a meteoric ascent. However, not all of the public is impressed with the young entertainer. Many parents fear his music is corrupting their children, and racist politicians also attack him. After a violent incident at a concert, Elvis finds himself facing a possible jail term. However, it is inferred that Parker persuades the government to draft Elvis into the US Army as a way of avoiding any further legal entanglements. During his time in the service, Elvis suffers the tragedy of his mother drinking herself to death. While stationed in Germany, Elvis meets his future wife Priscilla and upon his discharge, he resumes his career-making concert tours and movies while Parker’s control of his life becomes even stronger. Elvis is heartbroken by the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr and Robert Kennedy, wishing to become more politically outspoken in his music while Parker merely wants him to sing frivolous tunes that will be best sellers. After Parker locks him into a long contract to entertain at a Las Vegas hotel, Presley eventually grows tired of his Machiavellian manager and tries to fire him, only to be sued by Parker for a huge amount that will leave him broke. A vicious argument ensues, while afterward Elvis has to admit he has no choice but to maintain Parker, although they grow apart and rarely see each other afterwards. Eventually, Elvis’s life spirals downward as Priscilla take their daughter Lisa Marie and leaves him over his prescription drug addiction, which grows even stronger after she is gone. Eventually it results in his early death from a heart attack on August 16, 1977. It is revealed in the credits that Parker’s abuse of Elvis was brought forward in court a few years after Elvis’ death and he spent the last years of his life as a pathetic figure gambling away his money on casino slot machines, while Elvis is still the best selling solo artist of all-time and one of the most beloved entertainers in music history.
